I started a handmade business.

I created jewelry; people wore it.

I wrote words; people read them.

This is good, I thought. But it wasn’t enough.

I held my heart, and it was empty.

I went to church every Sunday.

I read my Bible and prayed consistently.

I tried to love others; I tried to be spiritual.

This is good, I thought. But it wasn’t enough.

I held my heart, and it was empty.

I broke down.

I sat alone in a quiet corner while tears fell.

In my desperation, I called out to the God of the universe.

“I’ve done all these things, but my heart is empty. I need you.”

“You are good,” he said. “You are enough.”

Then he whispered, “All you need I have given to you. Come to me empty-handed and open-hearted.”

He held my heart, and it was full.
